Math and Physics are 9th grade classes, taught by Chris Wakefield and Scott Stambach. I was in Scott Stambach's class, and these are my favorite projects.
Rube Goldberg
Rube Goldberg was a project where students had to create a complicated process of different contraptions in order to do a simple task like rolling a ball. Students had to come up with an equation that described how their contraptions work.
I found this project fun and engaging, but it also helped me learn to problem solve, build a contraption, and how to model an equation that represents my contraption.
November Sky
November Sky was a project where students created model rockets, and created an equation to determine the maximum height of their rocket when it is up in the air. For the exhibition of the project, students and their families visited Fiesta Island to launch the rockets.
I found this project both challenging and fun. It was challenging because I had to measure correctly, order certain supplies and had to calculate the maximum height the rocket would reach using an equation. We had to use grit and persevere in order to finish creating our rocket in time for the scheduled launch. It was fun because we were able to make a rocket by ourselves, and we get to launch our rocket into the air,
Cigar Box
Cigar Box Guitars was a project where students were able to create a ukulele or guitar out of cigar boxes. .After we created our ukulele or guitar, students had to create original music in Garage Band.
I really enjoyed the Cigar Box guitar project, I had fun assembling our ukulele with my partners Ben and Pablo. It was exciting to see our ukulele being used in our music in Garage Band, and it was fun exhibiting our project at school to our parents. I think this is one of the best Math and Physics project of Freshmen year.
